SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

By The Anchor Community

The talk of the week had been about the discussion of the Sustainable Development Goals at the United Nations General Assembly. But, do you exactly know what they are? Do you know how they can actually change the world around us? Is there a particular goal that you had been wanting to support without knowing how? Here's the answer to all your questions.

What are SDGs?

By definition, the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs), also called Global Goals, are a proposed set of targets relating to future international development. They are to replace the Millennium Development Goals once those expire at the end of 2015. These goals are discussed upon by the United Nations.

A bit of history does none no harm...

It, by which is meant the SDGs, had all started when they were first formally discussed at eh United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development held in Rio de Janeiro in June 2012. The document was then titled "The Future we Want".

A few days back, on 25 September 2015, the 193 countries of the UNGA adopted the 2030 Development Agenda titled "Transforming our World".

So, what are these goals?

There are, in total, 17 goals which the UN has decided to discuss upon:
